New, Fun High Engagement PATTERN Art Lesson

Here we are in January (after a CRAZY November and December!) and I’m feeling ready to share more exciting fun classroom ideas, tips, and lessons with you all!

This Pattern Art Lesson is a really fun, high engagement and also highly successful art lesson for Middle School and/or High School Art 1 classes.

As a MASSIVE bonus, it is really low-prep for the teacher! All you need to do is make some copies.  Then, make sure you have

  •  9″ x 9″ paper (any color will work!)
  • pencils
  • rulers
  • markers and/or colored pencils.   You could even try this with acrylic or watercolor (I’m usually not feeling that brave!)

Here are some of my Pattern Art Lesson student examples:

I also show them how to make distorted diagonal pattern. Here are a few examples of what that looks like:

Here you can see all of the worksheets, handouts and a few sameple Slides from the PowerPoint. The PowerPoint walks students step-by-step through the Pattern Art Lesson, making it super easy for the teacher! There are handouts that students can use to refer to as they are working, too!
