Arcimboldo Inspired Self-Portrait UPDATES!

I have made some MUCH NEEDED updates to my Arcimboldo Inspired Self-Portraits lesson and worksheets from Teachers Pay Teachers.

I love, love, LOVE this lesson.  You can see my original blog post about it here.  I have done it every single semester in my Art 2 class since I began teaching art in 2009!  Every year the kids just blow me away with their creativity and attention to detail. If anyone had purchased my previous version, you can now download the new one for free!  The content really remains the same, but I updated the worksheets so they have a fresh look more consistent with my newer projects.

This Art History worksheet pack and art lesson has everything you need to begin a Giuseppe Arcimboldo inspired self-portrait artwork with your class. This is for high school, but could be adapted to Middle School.

Other materials you will need:

  • Colored Pencils
  • White Drawing Paper 9×12″
  • Optional: Color/Black Construction Paper 9×12″ for the background

It includes a worksheet that goes with the Arcimboldo video available on the National Gallery of Art website called Arcimboldo: Nature and Fantasy. Select the 14 minute video link on the top right-hand side of the screen. Students can answer the questions as they watch the 14 minute video.

Absolutely the best part is the brainstorming worksheet page.  This page provides a fun, attractive page for students to come up with multiple quality ideas for their self-portraits’ themes.  You also get half and full-page portrait face outlines for practice sketching. For teacher use, it includes a step-by-step lesson instruction guide, answer key and three pages of my high school student examples (4 artworks per page, total of 12 examples)

Here are the example pages you will get:
