Growth Mindset and the Power of Yet!

Have you heard about “Growth Mindset?”   I hadn’t really heard about it until 2 years ago.  The idea came from a Stanford Professor, Carol Dweck.  She found that students who believed that intelligence can improve and isn’t just something someone is born with are more successful than students who believe the opposite!   This works beautifully in the Art classroom!  How many times have you heard students say, “I’m just not good at art?”

I talked to my Art 1 students about this briefly at the beginning of the school year.   I found some high school resources about Growth Mindset from Kahn Academy.    I also LOVE this video I found on YouTube!

I’ve found that since I started talking about art in this way at the beginning of Art 1, my students have a better attitude about their bad art.  I say “You have to make the bad stuff to get to the good stuff!”

Just for fun, I also made this printable coloring sheets with Growth Mindset sayings that I’m selling on Teachers Pay Teachers.
